Bakersfield invades the Raceway

Next out on the oval were the 360/410 Non-Winged Sprints, where Heidi Tresler’s string of misfortune continued.

The last time the 17-year old Victorville driver was on the track, she was involved in three incidents, none of which resulted in injury. This time, a wild collision with Apple Valley driver Dan Tedrick sent her car into a violent spin and flips. It took the rescue crew the better part of an hour to remove her from the car.

Placed on a backboard with her neck in a brace, Tresler was quickly transported to a local hospital and then flown by helicopter to Loma Linda for further evaluation. She was thoroughly examined there and released soon after with no serious injuries reported.

To add insult to injury, both Tresler and fellow Sprint driver Kris Stauffacher were going to be watched by NASCAR officials, with the offer of a driver development deal in the offing. Neither driver could be seen in action, though, as Stauffacher’s car developed problems and was out early as well.

Both drivers could still sign deals with NASCAR as soon as this week. Victorville Auto Raceway is quickly becoming a breeding ground for up-and-coming talent as Apple Valley’s IMCA Modified star Tony Kinkade Jr. may already have signed his development deal, rumored to be with the Ray Evernham Racing stable.

In the Sprint feature it was John Aden who drove away with a sweep in the division. After handily winning his heat event, Aden was able to hold off a hard-charging Duane Marcum for the feature win.
